Altering or Removing the Identity of a Firearm
Altering, removing, or obliterating the name of the maker, model, manufacturer’s number, or other mark of identity, such as filing off of a serial number, of a firearm is a felony, punishable by up to 2 years imprisonment, a $1,000 fine, or both.
Possession of a firearm that has been altered in this way is presumptive evidence that the possessor has made the alteration. This presumption does not apply to antique firearms.
